It's Already Fall

It's Already Fall

I'm so bad about keeping up with this blog.

It's been 8 months since I last posted anything.

That doesn't mean I haven't been busy.  Just to prove it, I'm adding several items that Cajun Stitchery has worked on this year.

These pictures are definitely not all inclusive.  The machine has been busy this year.

Since last year I've been trying to digitize a Pensacola Beach design for each holiday.  I think that's been pretty much accomplished.

I did the Pensacola Beach Ball and the Pensacola Beach sign for Mardi Gras.  Turned out that lots of people loved the Pensacola Beach Ball but only a few cared for the Pensacola Beach sign.  So, I stuck with the Pensacola Beach Ball.

This little Nutcracker tee shirt was special.  A customer contacted me on Facebook to do this.  She purchased the tee shirt online and had it delivered to me.  I did the embroidery and shipped it to her.  She paid with PayPal.  That was one of the coolest orders I've ever had.  The project just worked perfectly.

I digitized this crawfish awhile back and listed it in the Etsy Store as a digitized design for other embroiderers.  A potential customer contacted me recently wanting a patch with this design and "Crawdad" printed on the claw.  The potential customer never purchased it but I liked the design so much that I have it listed for sale on Etsy.

I made another USA flag quilt this year out of scrap fabric for my husband.  It really turned out nice, used up a bunch of my scrap fabric, and he loves it.  Yes, that's the Pledge of Allegiance stitched on the edges.

And then I started working on aprons.  Just because I wanted to do so.  Then I purchased waaay too much satin fabric in a myriad of colors.  But it makes me happy.

There is a special spot in my heart for the bridges-to-be who contact me.  From robes to handkerchiefs to anything needed to be embroidered for weddings.  I just love doing this.
Until next time

This has been a very busy year so far.  That is great news for us.  There have also been some really cool embroideries going on here, too.

The following handkerchiefs were quite an effort because there was so much text.  The customer purchased the handkerchiefs elsewhere and brought them to me for embroidery.

The handkerchief for her mom had so many words that we decided to make the handkerchief suitable for framing.

The following customer wanted her handkerchief on a very stretchy, sheer fabric.  It turned out beautiful and the customer loved it.

It is now 2015.  Where did 2014 go?

Tomorrow we are open for business and I haven't gotten everything that I needed to do done yet.  I'm still working on orders and redecoratinng for Mardi Gras.  Good news is that all of the Christmas decor has been taken down and put away, except for the front door.  I have an idea for the front door Mardi Gras decor that I hope will be done and hung by the end of the week.

The front door wreath will be a fleur de lis.  I drew half of a fleur de lis on paper then cut it out for a pattern.  Then I took 2 pieces of foam board, one o top of the other for 2 layers of foam board, and pinned the 1/2 fleur de lis pattern on top.  A razor was used to trace the pattern and cut through the foam board.  Then the foam board was placed side by side with the straight edges matching and taped together.  Voila!  One complete fleur de lis identical on each side.  Next came the mirror mylar.  Regular white glue purchased at Dollar Tree was used on the foam board.  A bead of the glue was run around the edges of the foam board and then the fleur de lis was placed, glue side down, on the mirror mylar and left to dry for awhile.  Then the excess mylar was cut away with the razor leaving about 1/2 to 1 inch outside the foam board.  Next came the scotch tape.  The edges were taped and pulled to the back of the foam board.  Yes, an entire roll of tape was used.  The fleur de lis was finished.  Next step is to decorate the fleur de lis.
I saw a beautiful picture of a metal sculpture of a Mardi Gras mask which I digitized into embroidery and stitched out.  The design was then cut away from the excess fabric and glued to the enter of the fleur de lis.  It is drying as I type this.  The same white glue was used to adhere the embroidery to the mirror mylar.  That may work but I won't know until it dries.

After the embroidery is attached to the fleur de lis, then I have to think of other decorations to make the door wreath outstanding.  Certainly beads will be involved.

Yes, Mardi Gras season is upon us and our first public party is this coming Saturday at Paradise Bar & Grill on Pensacola Beach.

It has been a busy week between embroidery and holidays and friends popping in and out.  2015 is sure to be one fabulous year.

Oh what a week this has been.  We had a large project of monogramming 57 shams for a hotel in Louisiana.  It was a domino effect and we ended up getting the shams on Wednesday.  We worked 12-14 hours a day and finally finished them Saturday evening.  Our customer had to leave Pensacola at 5 a.m. Sunday morning to get the shams to the hotel to meet the deadline of Sunday.

While embroidering these white shams, a small glob of black grease fell onto the fabric.  I finished the embroidery and promptly put baby powder on it.  There were several little dots of black grease.  The black grease is lint that gets caught up on the needles and absorbs the oil/grease of the machine.  The baby powder did absorb some of the spots but not all.  I put some dishwashing soap directly on the grease spots and rubbed it in a bit and then hand washed the sham in cold water.  The grease came out completely.

There was a day, many years ago, where I could work 24 or 48 hours straight.  Yes, I’ve done that.  Nowadays that just isn’t in the cards.  To celebrate the completion of this order, George made us a wonderful steak dinner Saturday night and presented me with a surprise.  He bought me a bottle of lemoncello.  Oh my goodness, that stuff tastes like lemon meringue pie in liquid form.  We thought I would fall fast asleep after dinner but that was not the case.  I guess I was wound up tight because sleep did not come easily.  Sunday we decided to truly make it a day of rest … and we did.  I fell asleep on the sofa watching movies and slept a good 3 hours.

When I awoke, we went to the Musicians Memorial at Vinyl Music Hall, here in Pensacola.  George is involved with this group and it was good to see some old faces and new faces.  We only stayed for an hour or so but enjoyed every minute.  The music, of course, was wonderful.

I found out yesterday that we may be getting a surprise visit from my embroidery tech.  Yes, I plan on introducing her to lemoncello, too.  She hasn’t told me exactly when she plans on staying or for how long but she is always welcome and Clothilde is also looking forward to her visit.

Did I tell you about the light and fan pulls?  I saw something on Facebook one day that were two little tabs with a light bulb on one and a fan on the other.  You attach these to the fan and light cords/chains on your ceiling fans.  That is a brilliant idea.  I have been meaning to get some tassels or something to extend the length of the chains on mine.  I love ceiling fans and have 7 of them in the studio.  I just cannot reach the chains.  Even when I get the stool out to reach the chains, I usually cannot tell which is for the light and which is for the fan.  Oh yes, I made a set of embroidered pulls for each ceiling fan in the studio.  It all started with one tab a simple rectangle and the other a circle.  Then I made one the shape of a light bulb and the other remained a circle with the outline of a fan embroidered within the circle.  I love them and they are so practical.  Of course, I put them in our Etsy Store.
