Happy 2014!  We are now on Volume 6.  That means that on March 3rd Cajun Stitchery will have been in business for 5 years and starting on our 6th year.  Yay!!!!!

Insofar as Cajun Stitchery is concerned, we are now in Mardi Gras season.  We have already received our first krewe jacket to embroider.  More masks are being created.  We are looking into shinier, blingy, materials to use.  Bring it on.  We are ready.

Over New Years we looked at a whole lot of statistics on our online business.  This year we may venture into a second Etsy store for just handkerchiefs and wedding accessories.  The final decision hasn’t been made yet but it is looking more and more that way.  It will be a lot of work but should pay off in the end.

We had an issue with our website host over the holidays and the website was down for about 15 days.  It is back up and running now.  In the future we may change hosts and if we do, we are considering having our own shop online, separate from our Etsy store(s).  All of these stores entail a lot of work and upkeep.

Another item discussed over the holidays was placing our embroidery with a company who does have a store front either on consignment or wholesaling.  All of these ideas are options and entail lots of work.  Picking one option is difficult.

Enough of that.  Let’s get onto fun stuff.  Mirrors have been on my mind lately.  In fact, I have just ordered a bunch of craft mirrors.  George mentioned to me that I might prefer having plastic mirrors.  Plastic mirrors?  I never heard of such a thing.  Only I could lack so much knowledge.  Yes, there are plastic mirrors, acrylic mirrors, and Mylar mirrors, in addition to the usual glass mirror.  eHow has some pretty simple instructions for making these mirrors and one article even talks about sewing on them.  Wow!  Project ideas began swirling in my imagination.  So far nothing has been created, only ideas.  Right now I’m too busy filling orders.

HAVE A GREAT WEEK

Thank you Bob for the following:

Seems an elderly gentleman had serious hearing problems for a number of years. He went to the doctor and the doctor was able to have him fitted for a set of hearing aids that allowed the gentleman to hear 100%. The elderly gentleman went back in a month to the doctor and the doctor said, "Your hearing is perfect. Your family must be really pleased you can hear again." To which the gentleman said, "Oh, I haven't told my family yet. I just sit around and listen to the conversations. I've changed my will five times!"

So sorry that I took last week off from Cajun Corner.  Between parties and working there was no time remaining.  We have embroidered some beautiful items and there are more to do this week.  Since I love to embroider, suffice it to say I am having a wonderful time.

A few years back we did tea towels with a beachy Santa.  Thought I would do another and as I was going through some designs, I ran across a whole series of beachy Santas.  These are smaller than the other one but so cute.  I loaded one of the beachy Santas into the embroidery machine and thought I would make one for a friend. After that was done, I decided to make one for the shop.  I made 3 in all and had to stop when a customer arrived.  As soon as she saw the beachy Santa, she asked how much and bought 2 right on the spot – still damp.  We now have one on Etsy and several more at the studio.  They really are adorable and we can, of course, add a monogram to make the towel extra special.  The customer who bought the 2 towels said that these were perfect for those last minute gifts to friends and hostess gifts.

Of course, the Christmas stockings have been arriving. Everyone has a stocking that needs a name.  Last Friday I was going to close the shop early because there was a party that evening.  A gentleman called and needed names on a couple of stockings.  Of course, he needed them done that day because the family was having the family portrait done on Saturday and the stockings needed to be hanging from the mantel.  We closed a bit later than anticipated but still in enough time to enjoy the party.

We’ve had several repeat customers, which always makes me smile because it means they like my work.  This week we are working on a few logos and names on shirts, as well as satin jackets.

I cannot forget my own family.  I stitched out a couple of really cute Disney designs for Kayla and a sham for my son.  Everything should be mailed later this week.

HAVE A wonderful week

Thank you Bob for the following:

An elderly couple were sitting outdoors at a cafe when they noticed an old man who seemed to be having trouble crossing the street with an ungainly shuffle. The man said to his wife "He surely has bad arthritis to walk like that." His wife replied "No, that's definitely old time rheumatism." They couldn't agree so the man decided to ask the old man. He walked over to him and said "Excuse me, sir, but my wife and I saw you having difficulty crossing the street and I told her that you have arthritis but she insisted that you have rheumatism. Which one of us was wrong?" The old man said "The three of us were wrong." "Three of us were wrong? How so?" asked the man to which the old man replied "You were wrong when you said I had arthritis and your wife was wrong when she said I had rheumatism and I was wrong when I thought I had to pass gas."

This farmer had a wife who nagged him all the time. One day while he was outside plowing the field, she came out and started nagging him. While she was doing this, the mule kicked her and she died. At the funeral, the ladies came up and talked to the farmer. The farmer nodded his head "yes". The men came up and talked to him and the farmer nodded his head "no". Well this other man wondered why he nodded his head "yes" to the ladies and "no" to the men. Then, he went up to the farmer and asked him why. The farmer replied, "Well, when the ladies came up, they told me how pretty my wife's dress was and how pretty she looked. When the men came up, they asked, "That mule for sale?"

A pregnant woman gets into a car accident and falls into a deep coma. Asleep for nearly six months, she wakes up and sees that she is no longer pregnant. Frantically, she asks the doctor about her baby. The doctor replies, "Ma'am, you had twins! A boy and a girl. The babies are fine. Your brother came in and named them." The woman thinks to herself, "Oh no, not my brother - he's an idiot!" Expecting the worst, she asks the doctor, "Well, what's the girl's name?" "Denise," the doctor says. The new mother thinks, "Wow, that's not a bad name! Guess I was wrong about my brother. I like Denise!" Then she asks the doctor, "What's the boy's name?" The doctor replies, "DeNephew."

Two ladies were hanging out together and one was depressed. "What's wrong?" The depressed one replied, "I've been married four times and every one of my husbands has passed away." The other lady asked, "What did they used to do?" The depressed lady replied, "Well, my first husband was a millionaire, the second was a magician, the third was an evangelist, and the fourth was a mortician." And the other said, "Oh, one for the money, two for the show, three to get ready, and four to go."

Four high school boys afflicted with spring fever skipped morning classes. After lunch they reported to the teacher that they had a flat tire. Much to their relief she smiled and said: "Well, you missed a test today so take seats apart from one another and take out a piece of paper." Still smiling, she waited for them to sit down. Then she said: "First Question (100 points): Which tire was flat?"

Last week I invited a couple of our friends to dinner yesterday.  My friend asked what she could bring.  I told her that I had not decided the menu at that time and would let her know.  Relaying that information to George, he said, “They will expect shrimp.  That is what you cook.”  So, shrimp is what we had.  I definitely need to come up with another main dish.  However, no one ever complains about boiled shrimp.

The gnomenator is at it again.  One girl has received two gnomes and one received a set of 4 Saints gnomes.  However, the gnomenator remains a mystery.

The horse embroidery turned out to be a success.  The Wisconsin customer said it was a gift and the recipient was very happy to receive it.

Another order this week came from an Etsy customer who ordered a dozen burgundy napkins with a mermaid with a silver metallic tail.

Another Etsy order this week was for one of our fleur de lis embroidery designs.

We received a rush order for a couple of Pensacola With Kids logos on running shirts.

Most of the week, however, was spent working on the huge embroidered headboard.

Almost any design can be embroidered on a laundry bag, beach towel, bath towel, hand towel, or any kind of towel.  They make wonderful gifts and are great for wherever towels are needed.  Imagine your monogram on a set of towels in your bathroom; all matching each other and embroidered using the color of the room.

Have a wonderful week

Thank you Harold Wilkes for the following:

Exercise For People Over 60

Begin by standing on a comfortable surface, where you have plenty of room at each side.

With a 5-lb potato bag in each hand, extend your arms straight out from your sides.

Hold them there as long as you can. Try to reach a full minute, and then relax.

Each day you'll find that you can hold this position for just a bit longer. After a couple of weeks, move up to 10-lb potato bags.

Then try 50-lb potato bags, and then eventually, try to get to where you can lift a 100-lb potato bag in each hand and hold your arms straight for more than a full minute.

After you feel confident at that level, put a potato in each bag.

There is not a whole lot to report this week.  Most of the week has been spent getting a customer ready to go to Texas.

A lady on Facebook did contact me to do some embroidery for her wedding.  She wants the groomsmen’s’ names embroidered on the cuffs of sleeves.  She is using the sleeves as gift bags.  How cute is that?  We will also be embroidering handkerchiefs for the girls.  I’ll meet with her on Monday morning.  This should be a fun project.

It turned out a good thing that we didn’t begin working on the bowling shirts.  The lovely bowling ladies changed their minds about the design and colors.  Now I’m waiting on a final decision.

The peas have sprouted in the garden but not a lot of other things sprouted.  We should have at least 30 sugar snap pea plants growing out there.  Yummy.

Today has been such a lovely spring day.  All I want to do it get out in the garden.  Maybe tomorrow will be garden day.  The dogs are enjoying the weather as well and are staying outside more than usual.  The cats, of course, don’t care one way or the other.  They are in their own royal world.

A friend of mine bought a cute little house on the beach with the intent of renting it.  When it is not being rented, she planned to spend some time there.  Before the closing on the house was final she had renters signed up through June.  She may not get to stay there at all, at this rate.  That was a really good investment.

My mama worked until she was 90 years old.  She, of course, had a career as a legal secretary until she retired.  Then she and daddy bought some quadraplexes in New Iberia and she managed that property until she was 90.  She prepared her own tax returns; maintained the property; and was the landlady extraordinaire.  She loved to play games and have activities that made her mind work.  I guess someone told her the mind was the first to go.

I am my mother’s daughter because I have no intention to ever stop working.  Cajun Stitchery is my retirement job.  It certainly isn’t as stressful as my career jobs were.  I sure hope that Cajun Stitchery lasts until I’m 90 or more.  Sitting on a rocking chair, rocking my life away is not a pleasant thought for me.

George’s father will be 90 this year and is still going strong.  We were concerned about him after Mom passed away earlier this year but he seems to be hanging in there and bidding his time.  George talks to him at least three times a week now.

A few days ago I received a delightful surprise phone call.  It was my son, Hank, calling to let me talk to my great granddaughter, Kayla.  I know that everyone heard her say, “Ba, ba ma, ba…”  I heard her say, “Hello, great grandmother, it is such a pleasure to talk with you.”  They thought she was biting and drooling on the phone but I know she was blowing kisses to me because I received each one of them.

Although we now have a new Pope, the following was provided to me by Paulette Provost before the Pope was chosen:

Did you hear about the Italian Cardinal

that is on the ballot

for possible replacement of the Pope?

Cardinal Cicolla is said to be

the top man for the job.

I do not know that much about him.

Do you?

I was told that

if he should get the position in Rome

he will be known as

Pope Cicolla!
